OPERATIONS MANAGER

SPARC Theater is hiring an Operations Manager.
This behind-the-scenes role is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a dynamic arts nonprofit. The position can be part-time or full-time depending on the candidate—ideal for someone who thrives on structure, communication, and meaningful work.

Position Overview
The Operations Manager (OM) is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of SPARC Theater. The OM will work closely with the Executive/Artistic Director and staff to ensure the smooth functioning of all aspects of the theater, from budgeting and financial management to staffing, programming, and marketing. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the arts, a strong background in nonprofit management, and a collaborative spirit to help advance the mission of SPARC Theater in the local community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Arts Management, Business Administration, Liberal Arts or related field (or equivalent work experience). MBA or other relevant advanced degree a plus.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a management or leadership role within a nonprofit organization, theater company, or similar environment required. Performing Arts administrative work preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting and nonprofit management practices. Knowledge of theater operations a plus.
  • Experience in marketing a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff, board members, artists, patrons, and the community.
  • Proficiency with office management and financial software and the ability to learn new software as required. Google Workplace, Salesforce/Patron Manager, Docusign, WordPress and Quick Books Online a plus. Experience with ticketing systems, and CRM is a plus.
  • Valid Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40lbs.
  • A passion for the arts and education.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of Livermore and the Tri-Valley area, with established community ties.
  • Familiarity with marketing and social media platforms.
  • Experience with production management or artistic programming.

Compensation
This is a part-time salaried position without benefits that could grow to a full-time, salaried position with benefits. Salary range is $24 – $30/hour or $50,000 – $65,000, commensurate with experience. SPARC Theater offers a dynamic, supportive work environment with opportunities for professional growth and development.

TEACHING ARTIST- SUMMER

SPARC Theater is hiring Teaching Artists for our summer theater camps for students in grades 3–8.
We are looking for enthusiastic, collaborative educators with experience in theater, education, or youth programs. A background in Shakespeare or performance is a plus, but not required.

About the Programs:
SPARC’s summer camps offer students the opportunity to explore Shakespeare’s language and stories through play, performance, and creativity. Whether they’re solving mysteries in a museum or diving into the world of Shakespeare’s comedies, campers develop acting skills, build confidence, and form lasting friendships- all in a supportive, ensemble-based environment. All experience levels are welcome.

Program 1: Shakespeare Adventure Club

Dates: July 7–18 (Monday–Friday)
Campers engage with Shakespeare’s characters and language through fun, interactive activities that encourage creativity, self-expression, and teamwork.

Program 2: Some Have Greatness

Dates: July 21 – August 1 (Monday–Friday)
Young actors rehearse and perform original short plays, culminating in a showcase performance on the final day.

Camp Details (for both programs):

  • Elementary Session (3rd–5th grade): 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

  • Middle School Session (6th–8th grade): 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

  • Location: SPARC Studio, 2172 Railroad Avenue, Livermore, CA

  • Teaching Artists will co-teach each session with another instructor

  • Artists may be assigned to one or both programs depending on availability and fit

  • Pay is $35–$40/hour depending on experience

  • Supplies are provided by SPARC Theater, some loose curriculum is provided but artists are able to customize their camps’ games, exercises, etc.

  • Teaching Artists must have up-to-date COVID vaccinations

TEACHING ARTIST- FALL

SPARC Theater is hiring Teaching Artists for our 2nd-grade So Wise, So Young Shakespeare in-school program. The ideal candidate will be energetic, a team player, and have a background in either theater or education. Shakespeare experience is preferred, but not required.

About the Program:

So Wise, So Young is a ten-week literacy program using Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to increase language comprehension and reading skills. Students are introduced to Shakespeare and the Elizabethan time period while developing imagination and expression through drama-based activities.

This program aligns with Common Core standards and has been taught in all Livermore Valley Joint Unified District 2nd-grade classrooms since 2014.

Details: 

  • Classes are held Monday through Friday roughly 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM (depending on the school/day), mid to late September and ending early December (specific dates TBA)
  • Teaching Artists can teach one day a week, or multiple days a week depending on their schedules
  • Classes are 45 minutes long and are generally team-taught by two Teaching Artists
  • Classes take place in 2nd-grade classrooms throughout the Livermore Valley School District
  • SPARC Theater provides all curriculum and supplies
  • Pay is $35-$40/hour depending on experience level
  • Training in the curriculum is required at $25/hour
  • Teaching Artists must have up-to-date COVID vaccinations and TB test (which SPARC will reimburse with proof of receipt up to $35.00)

LOAD-IN & STRIKE CREW

SPARC is looking for crew members to help with Load-In and Strike for our summer season of Shakespeare in the Vineyard. Details:

  • Adhere to directions of the Technical Director, Designers, and Director
  • Participate in the construction and deconstruction of set
  • Work collaboratively with other crew members and departments
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in the heat
  • Possible need to be high up or in cramped spaces
  • Ability to safely move heavy items up to 50lbs
  • Skilled with building tools preferable
  • Minimum wage
