In-School Programs

SPARC offers a variety of in-school educational programs, ranging from Elementary School through College level. All programs are taught by professional Teaching Artists and align with Common Core State Standards.

* Programs can be provided online via Zoom or through Online Learning Systems such as Canvas or Schoology.

2nd & 3rd Grade:

So Wise So Young: A ten-week literacy program using Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to increase language comprehension and reading skills. Students are introduced to Shakespeare and the Elizabethan time period while developing imagination and expression through drama-based activities.

This program aligns with Common Core Speaking & Listening, and Reading & Literature standards and has been taught in all second grade classrooms of the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District since 2015.

4th & 5th Grade:

Shakespeare Adventure Club: NEW PROGRAM ALERT! Dive into the world of Shakespeare with our after-school Shakespeare Adventure Club. This program is perfect for budding actors and curious minds who want to explore theater through engaging games and theatrical activities. Students will develop their imagination, expression, critical thinking, and communication skills in a fun, supportive environment.

Coming Soon for 7th Grade:

Plant Thine Honor: Explore the characters, plot, and themes of Shakespeare’s All’s Well That Ends Well through the lens of Choose Love, a social-emotional learning curriculum. Students will spend ten weeks examining the characters’ actions through literacy and drama-based activities. How do they show courage, gratitude, forgiveness, and compassion in action? How can we better develop these traits in our own lives?

This program aligns with Common Core Speaking & Listening, Reading & Literature, and Writing standards. Program piloted: Spring 2022

 

6th-8th Grade:

Shakespeare Workshops: Studying a Shakespeare play? Have our professional Teaching Artists come into your classroom to lay the foundation for a successful play study. SPARC offers 90-minute workshops introducing students to the basics of Shakespeare’s time and text. These workshops can be customized to the classroom teacher’s needs.

SPARC offers half-day and 90-minute Shakespeare workshops, introducing students to the basics of Shakespeare’s time and text through the classroom teacher’s chosen play. These workshops can be customized to the classroom teacher’s needs. 

Still choosing a Shakespeare text? Let us lead a First Folio Workshop, where students dive into Shakespeare’s words as they were originally written. 

Trying to link Shakespeare’s work to important issues, such as race? Ask about our Othello Project, led by Michael Wayne Rice, MFA.

Internships:

Love theater? Join us for our Summer Season. SPARC offers High School Internships where students gain experience working in a professional theater environment. For more information, or to apply, visit our High School Internship page for details.

Workshops/Lectures:

Liven up your class with a speaker from SPARC. Whether it’s play specific lectures for an English Class or career prep and audition workshops for pre-professionals, SPARC supplies lecturers and/or speakers who work professionally in theater. Their intimate knowledge provides your students with an in-depth insight into the worlds of Shakespeare and the business of acting. These workshops can be customized to the professor’s needs.

Apprenticeships:
